ABR-BWV is an apolitical nonprofit organization that unites the various actors - from both the public and the private sector - involved in the construction, management and operation of road infrastructure in Belgium. It was founded on March 28, 2000 (Belgian law gazette of October 5, 2000)
  ABR-BWV was formed in 2000 by merging the Royal Permanent Association of Belgian Road Congresses (ARPCBR-KBVBWC), which was founded in 1931, and the Belgian National Committee of the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (BNC-PIARC), established in 1959.

THE OBJECTIVES 0F ABR-BWV ARE

  • to promote all kinds of progress in road construction, maintenance and operation, as well as in road safety;
  • to promote and coordinate all initiatives in the fields of road-related mobility and road traffic;
  • to bring about cooperation between road technologists, road practitioners and road users;
  • to undertake the activities and actions that Belgium ought to perform as a member of the World Road Association (PIARC)

WITH THESE OBJECTIVES IN VIEW, ABR-BWV

  • organizes Belgian road congresses and specific workshops;
  • publishes essays, journals and documents relating to its field of activity;
  • represents PIARC in Belgium and organizes the Belgian participation in PIARC activities (for example the world road congresses).

ABR-BWV COMPRISES THREE CATEGORIES 0F MEMBERS

  • institutional members (federal government and authorities of the three regions);
  • collective members (local authorities, public or public utility institutions, scientific, technical or professional associations, commercial enterprises or industrial firms, etc.);
  • individual members.
