Member’s Meeting Day (Lummen)

On 28th June 2010, the Belgian Road Association ABR-BWV held a Members’ Meeting Day.

The programme started with meetings of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly in the morning, followed by lunch. At the initiative of Pieter De Winne, head of MOW-AWV, a technical visit to the cloverleaf junction in Lummen was organised in the afternoon. A drink has rounded off the Meeting Day.

TRANSPORT RESEARCH ARENA : TRA 2010 (Brussels)

From 7th through 10th June 2010, the Brussels Square Meeting Centre was the venue for the third edition of Transport research Arena: TRA 2010. This international congress on research and innovation in road transport was organized by the three Belgian regions, under the patronage and in association with CEDR (the Conference of European Directors of Roads) and ERTRAC (the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council).

TRA 2010 (http://www.traconference.eu) aimed to offer all actors involved in research and development in the transport and road construction sectors a European forum par excellence for exchanging knowledge and experience.

The target audience of this event included public authorities as well as engineering firms, consultants, professional associations, contractors, suppliers, car manufacturers, etc.

The Board of Directors of the Belgian Road Association (ABR-BWV) decided to participate with an exhibition stand held jointly with the roads administrations of the three Belgian regions. A banner was erected with the logos of all the members of the Association. Atmosphere pictures from the road branch were displayed on a large cloth, with an LCD screen giving more detailed information.

XXIst Belgian Road Congress

Venue: ICC - Ghent.

In the beautiful sunny morning of 25th June 2009, nearly twenty-five members of ABR-BWV accepted the invitation of Mr Jean-Claude Moureau (the director general of Bruxelles Mobilité-AED) to visit the Brussels-North waste water treatment plant.

After viewing an introductory film they were able to discover the plant. It is currently capable of effectively treating the waste water produced by more than one million inhabitants, thereby preserving the water environment of the river Senne.

Mr Alain Lefebvre (inspector general) then gave a brief account of the genesis of the project, while describing the various stages of tendering, design, construction, and operation of the plant.

A buffet of sandwiches generously offered by our hosts (Aquiris) enabled the participants to exchange their impressions and comments to this interesting visit.

Rehabilitation works on highway E411 in Wallonia have recently entered the last phase.  That phase comprises among other things the placing of a concrete overlay between Rulles and Habay-la-Neuve.  On 8th June 2006, the Belgian Road Association organised a technical visit to the construction site.
