History

The Belgian Road Association was founded in 2000 by merging two earlier associations: the Royal Permanent Association of Belgian Road Congresses, which was founded in 1931, and the Belgian National Committee of the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses, established in 1959.

It can even be said that ABR-BWV is the heiress of over hundred years of tradition, as Belgium is one of the founding members of PIARC. Two world road congresses were held in Brussels: the IInd World Road Congress in 1910 (after the founding congress in Paris in 1909) and the XVIIth World Road Congress in 1987.
