21.04.2015 - Meetingday(Couvin)

It was a beautiful day in spring when the members of ABR-BWV met in the Aquascope at Virelles on 21st April 2015.

Over thirty persons had accepted the invitation from DGO1 of SPW and made the trip to the outer edge of the province of Namur to visit the work site for the construction of the Couvin bypass road.

They were welcomed in the Aquascope on the banks of the pond of Virelles, where J.-L. Lecomte (C.E., SPW) and M. Vander Borght (BAM-Wanty-Galère) briefly explained the nature of the works in progress. The speakers then guided them to the gigantic construction site between Frasnes and the Ry de Rome. The visitors travelled several kilometres on site by bus and were able to discover several structures (bridges, tunnel, storm water basin, …) and the exceptional measures taken for fauna protection (bat shaft, frog and toad passages, game passages, …). They were particularly impressed by the karstic phenomenon at Frasnes (a cave at subformation level) and the impressive embankment of La Platine.

After a delicious buffet with local specialties, the members attended the meetings of the Executive Committee and the General Assembly.

At the end of the day, they gathered under a dazzling sun for a closing drink before turning home.
